"You know why you are called a lost cause right?" My dad asked which confused me he knew I know all there is to know about lost causes. "Of course I do it's because a creature born without either it's parents loving each other or it's parents loving it is a lost cause and they normally don't live very long. The reason they don't live very long is because being born into our world without love causes a person to be born with a black heart because they have never known any good and no newborn can carry that much evil so they die. Lost boys can't love anyone and soul shifters die when giving birth to something who has the even the slightest bit of evil in their heart therefore I don't have my mother's nor your love resulting in what would normally be a lost cause because normally no matter what anyone do they die. But my kind the lost causes don't which is why we got that name. To remind us that a child born without love is forever a lost cause and cannot love anyone themselves much like they weren't loved by anyone at birth." I started panting slightly out of breath after my long rant and for some reason my dad had a proud expression on his face. "Most of that was correct but you're wrong about one thing." He said and I could feel myself grow even more confused since I had recited it directly from the 'Magical and Mythical Creatures' book the magic council has. "What?" I asked furrowing my brow slightly to show my confusion. "Lost causes can actually love." By now I was completely lost considering I had never heard about a lost cause able to love anyone or anything. "How?" I asked slowly still taking in and processing the new piece of information that went against everything I have ever heard read and/or learned about lost causes. "Humans. A lost cause can travel to the world humans live in a world where the only magic is the magic that was there long before humans ever existed and the bit that people and creatures from our world left on their trips there. Now a lost cause can chose one human and only one to love not any other creature or person mythical magical supernatural or ordinary." "But how does that work? I mean how do I chose the right one and what happens if I chose the wrong one the one that isn't my true love?" "I don't really know how it works I only know that instead of getting a soul animal like soul shifters would you get a human soul mate. I don't know how you chose them I don't know how you know it's the right one that it's true love and I don't know what happens if you chose the wrong one. I do know that you only have until you're twenty-first birthday to find the one chose them fall in love and say 'I love you' to each other and it can't be forced you have to mean it." as he started explaining the few details he know to me I could feel myself grow angrier how long had he known this and why didn't he tell me I mean I'm nineteen for crying out loud I only have a little over a year to find some girl somehow 'chose' her and then make her fall in love with me and fall in love with her myself. "How long have you known this?" I asked trying to keep my cool. "Jasmi-" I cut him off not interested in his explanations just the truth. "How long have you fucking known?" I asked again my voice calm as I let anger seep into my words even though I kept my face blank. "Since your mother got pregnant." he admitted looking down shamefully as I took in his words. "Why did you only tell me know. What's changed since you think now is the time to tell me this now when I only have one year and five months to find someone chose them and fall in love with them and make them fall in love with me." "There where no portals they had been destroyed." "Well if there are no portals why tell me in the first place?" "For two good reasons. One if you haven't managed to find her chose her fall in love and say 'I love you' before your twenty-first birthday you will die and it will come slowly the darkness will take over your heart because there is no longer any hope of love and as we all know love is the only thing that can banish the pure evil that possess your heart. Two because of the war between demons and angels good has come together and has managed to make a portal though only one person and one animal or other creature can go through it and it is not guarantee that they will or can return. Now the reason why they made this portal is because they need something from earth I don't know what it is only the MMS(Magical Mythical and Supernatural) council knows what it is and they are looking for volunteers to send to earth to find this object whatever it might be." "How do they chose who gets to go through the portal?" "All the volunteers get tested. There are three tests. Test one is to see what your intentions of going to earth are they can be selfish but they still have to be good also this test includes seeing if you're actually going to get whatever object they need or if you're just going to run away because earth is a save heaven from this war even though their world will change depending on who wins the war. Test two is strength in all it's forms physically mentally spiritually and so on. Test three is to see how you will get along with your partner the other animal or creature that will come with you to earth. You might get to chose your partner yourself but all that depends on who you are going to chose and what the MMS council thinks about your partner." "So you want me to volunteer? But what about you I can't just leave you dad even though I can't love you you still mean a lot to me." "Yes I want you to volunteer your life is worth more than you keeping me company and even though I can't love you either you still mean a lot to me too." he said tearing up a little at the end taking me by surprise I had never seen him cry never even seen him tear up even the slightest bit. No he is not made of stone actually he is quite emotional but hardly ever sad typically only happy comes with being a lost boy that and not getting older meaning he looks like a seventeen year old even though he's at least seven hundred years old by now. "Dad are you crying?" I asked not sure if I could trust my own eyes right now. "Pff no." he said childishly not quite convincing me even though his brown eyes where now back to normal with only a slight tint of red showing he had been close to crying. "If you say so dad." I mumbled under my breath careful as to not let him hear me before letting out a slight chuckle and standing up whilst talking we had forgotten everything about dinner and it was now cold so I didn't want to eat it anyway besides me and Nita was going hunting soon so I could just eat something then. "Aren't you hungry?" he asked slight confusion showing in his eyes probably because he must've been pretty hungry himself at this point. "Yeah but me and Nita are going hunting and I need some time to think about all of this so I'm not sure if I'll be home tonight might first be home sometimes tomorrow night!" I stated as I walked through the dinning room and the living room into the hall shouting the last part so he would be able to hear me from the other room. "Okay have fun remember to let Nita catch something too!" he yelled back and I just mumbled some incomprehensible answer as I charged up the stairs to get some clothes for tomorrow before opening my window and jumping outside landing two stories down on the grass before wolf whistling to get Nita's attention. Alpha. How did it go? She asked as she appeared from the bushes and I could immediately feel the tingling sensation I got every time I mind-linked with someone or something if she had been more human I wouldn't have been able to tap into her feelings and thoughts without her giving me permission and it wouldn't be her hard to stay connected with her. Also if she was more human I could link with her over a distance of a hundred miles instead of only ten-fifteen miles I'm able to know and twenty five if I have her full attention. I'm not sure how it went. I don't really want to talk about it I just want to run hunt feel the wind in my fur and relax. Will you help me morph? I asked seeing as lost causes can morph into any animal as long as it allows you too and as long as it is more animal than human meaning I can't morph into example a werewolf even with its consent and even if it is in wolf form because it is still more human at mind than animal. There are three ways a lost cause can morph into an animal. One if an animal willingly gives me permission to tap into part of it's soul I can turn into the animal I will look exactly like it and I will have the same abilities it has plus my own I will stay like this until I meet up with the animal again and I morph back into my human form if the animal doesn't give me permission willingly I cannot change into it's form. Two in order to be able to change into an animal always whenever I want for as long as I want and to be able to turn back into my human form whenever I want I have to kill whatever animal I want to turn into. I never kill to be able to change into one though which may seem weird considering I hunt and kill animal at least once a week but if I want to be able to morph into whatever animal I kill it's death will be slow painful and cruel to say the least and I could never put a living thing through that. And three in order to be able to change into an animal forever in a way that is totally painful for the animal I can't do it on my own no I need the animals consent to kill it and it has to be an animal that isn't dying but a hundred percent healthy and it has to be willing to die for me so I can get it's form the animal also has to be good no hint of evil in it's heart same with the reason why it wants to die. The reason as to why I want the form can be because I have to kill someone or something but in that case the death angel Gabriel decides whether or not it is for good or evil and even he can be wrong from time to time meaning if you look into the lost causes history you can see some using their forms for evil. When something like that happens it is typically because death -but sometimes other villains- have tricked Gabriel into giving the animals soul to someone evil since they can't trick whoever Gabriel works for it's rare but it happens from time to time. This is the reason why most evil lost causes just killed the animal to take their soul even though this way is much faster since it takes weeks for the animal to die the other way around sometimes even months if the animal is a bigger animal or a magical or mythical animal. Yes I will help you. Are you planning on hunting alone or with me? I think I will hunt alone at least to start with but I think sometime around noon tomorrow we could meet at the river under the tree house so I can morph back? I asked before putting my backpack with extra clothes on the ground and taking my shirt of making ready to morph into a wolf happy that our backyard is directly next to the forest and that big bushes surround it so no one could see me strip down. Sure where are you planning on hunting? She asked as she sat down wagging her tail slightly in excitement obviously at the thought of hunting. A little in the forest maybe higher up the river and probably in the corn fields that surrounds the dwarf mines. I answered before discarding the last piece of clothing. I shivered lightly as a cold breeze hit me before I turned to look into Nita's eyes preparing myself to morph into a wolf a painful procedure because it is not my form because I haven't killed a wolf to get it's form and no wolf has died to give their form to me. I will go down the river deeper into the forest then maybe hunt a little with the Canowicakte pack or at least in their territory they invited me down there last time we met. Okay ready? She asked and I could feel her cut of the mind-link as she concentrated and I nodded before concentrating myself. After a couple of minutes I could feel the familiar pain and I knew the transformation had started and even as I tried to keep in the pained screams and groans I couldn't help but let one or two escape before I turned into a wolf and I started whimpering slightly before the pain disappeared. As soon as the transformation was over I rose to my feet and shook my fur out before walking over to Nita and licking her muzzle to show my thanks before I turned around and ran into the forest through the bushes she had just come from hearing her howl after me I stopped and howled back before continuing deeper into the forest.
