Prologen til en roman jeg er ved at skrive, som hedder "Flower child". Det kan godt være der er et par fejl, da den er på engelsk, så... ;D

Prologue

Avare, the plains of light. That is how, people has called it for thousands of years, but the darkness has taken over and is roaming the land. It takes the form of a giant winged beast and destroys whatever, it comes across. For twenty years this evil has made more and more of the country into waste land, where no one dares to enter. Every single city has been taken over, and soldiers are roughly harassing the people.
Even so a tiny area has escaped the rage of this monstrous creature, a small village in the mountains has remained untouched. The villagers are unaware of the dangers lurking outside their borders. Their tiny community is flourishing under the divine protection of a spring placed deep in the mountains. The spring never dries out, even though there is no visible source of water. The water falls hundreds of meters from the opening in the cave where the spring originates. The water has become the source that provides the entire village with water and the water is so clean that you can drink directly from the river.

One day a farmer decided to visit the spring. His brother had left the village, and thereby he lost the divine protection and was executed by the soldiers, but everyone in the village believed, that he had just disappeared. The farmer decided to go to the spring and pray to the great mother, that his brother would be alive and well. The farmer was in his fifties and had just lost his wife. If his brother died he would have no family left. It took him three days to reach the spring. The clear water reflected the light from the sun onto the black walls and a ghostly light filled the cave. As he fell to his knees to pray, the farmer spotted something rather peculiar: A petal. A small white petal flowing on the surface of the water. Astonished the farmer watched as the petal started to swirl and the water with it. He didn't believe his own eyes, but really saw it: the petal started to fly. Centimetre by centimetre it rose from the water. When it was about a meter above the surface it started to grow. It reached the size of an average basket before it gently flew downwards and landed on the water again. A small breeze filled the cave with the fresh scent of grass and flowers. It pushed the petal towards the edge of the basin. Unable to move, the farmer could only watch. With a silent 'bump' the petal hit the edge, and the farmer was pulled out of his trance. He looked closer at the petal, and his eyes opened even wider. Wrapped in a white cloth as white as snow a child was sleeping on the petal. She was only an infant. Hesitantly, but gently the farmer picked her up, and the second her tiny body didn't touch the petal it returned to its original size and dissolved. With the baby held close to his chest, the farmer hurried back to his house. He took care of her and raised her as his grandchild. He named her Maltara, a strong name meaning 'brought by water' in the language of the ancient gods. He never told her where she was from and started to believe himself that she was truly his, but it would not last forever...
